The Tourist Office organises a programme of guided tourist visits so that visitors can get up close to the heritage, culture and history of Caldes de Malavella.

HISTORICAL RE-ENACTMENTS:
Itinerant theatre visit

When: Saturdays in August and September (6 sessions)


The historical re-enactments that have been held since 2001 consist of a lovely guided walk around different corners of the municipality under the fun and enjoyable direction of three theatre actors who describe town events: from prehistory via Roman Caldes and the value that the waters have acquired with the exploitation of the thermal waters and the construction of the thermal spas.

When: at the Water Fair (1st weekend in October)


Very interesting activity that includes explanations on Caldes water (origin, temperature, properties…), the different upwelling points of the three Caldes hills, the beginnings of bottling and the phenomenon of balneotherapy.

When: through the El Gust de la Paraula Festival (4th weekend in November)

Visit of different sites of the old town and reading of legends of Caldes.

When: during the site’s excavation campaign (late May)

Guided tour of Camp dels Ninots Paleontological Site under the charge of the team director of the archaeological campaign (IPHES-URV).

A tour of Caldes through outstanding historic events that took place between the 1930s and 1940s. A dark time, but which at the same time allows for a certain storytelling thanks to existing documentation: the Italian soldiers, Nazi spies, the hospitalised and refugees who fled other cities and towns…

This activity is proposed as an experience where pupils put themselves in an archaeologist’s shoes. Through this workshop, you will experience how archaeologists work in an excavation, what their materials are, the methods they use and the scientific process for data collection.

Aquae Calidae, which we know today by the name Caldes de Malavella, was one of the Roman cities that existed in olden times in Catalonia. We will learn about it from a visit to the thermal baths complex, a building with 2,000 years of history that will enable you to learn about how the Romans lived, what thermal baths were,

From the second half of the 19th century, thanks to its hot spring sources, Caldes de Malavella became an active town where thermal spas and summer holidays for high society alternated with a prosperous bottling industry.
